3000 Ton Verson Transfer Press Relocation Ford Motor Company Chicago Heights, Illinois and Monroe, Michigan Engineering Solutions from Concept to Completion Summary of Scope of Service ATSI was selected to provide design and construction drawings for the installation of a Verson 3000 ton transfer press. The press needed to be relocated from a former Ford Motor Company plant to their Chicago Stamping Plant. The new site needed a new foundation, piers, 175 x 80 foot concrete and steel operation floor, and a 14 x 60 foot steel platform for electrical controls. The press is part of a launch of two new car models to begin production in 2004. Ford required the reuse of electrical control cables and terminal boxes. Since existing documentation for the press did not exist, field visits were required to carefully document the existing installation. The design of the new electrical control platform needed close coordination between electrical and structural designers to satisfy the customer’s requirements.

Services Provided - Provided demolition drawings for the demolition of operation floor, basement floor, and building columns.
Provided a design to temporarily shore the operation floor during the installation of heavy press parts. - Design of new press foundation, piers, and 175 x 80 foot operation floor.
- Designed a removable pecan wood floor around the press perimeter.
- Designed a new 14 x 60 foot steel platform for press electrical controls and access to the press crown.
- Provided all structural steel detail drawings.
- Designed the electrical cabinet layout to utilize existing cable and conduit openings.
- Designed conduit and cable trays to allow reuse of existing cables and terminal boxes.
- Designed a basement equipment layout.
- Provided a fire protection system design for the press basement.
